Pops Matters Calls Wild Whites The Top Film of 2010...

January 9, 2011

...that you've never heard of.

Here's the post.

They write "With its cinema verite style and the brazen honesty of its subjects, The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia becomes an instant classic..."

Dave Payton of the Charleston Daily Mail Blasts WWoWV

August 13, 2010

Dave Peyton of the Charleston Daily Mail blasted the movie for purportedly showing West Virginia in a bad light he writes, "A friend whom I consider somewhat of an expert on film reports the documentary is a masterpiece, but that doesn't mean it does anything positive for West Virginia." Curiously he has not seen the film himself.

Director Julien Nitzberg responds in an op-ed. In his response Julien writes "But why shouldn't poor people and outlaws have their stories told also? Are they not part of our country with lives worth considering?

In America, we are afraid to show the true struggles of poor people and the complexity of their lives. The Whites represent a part of America we too often keep hidden." You should read the whole thing.

See the Wild and Wonderful Whites July 2-8 in LA!

July 2, 2010

Calling all Los Angeles residents! Director Julien Nitzberg has a list of irrefutable reasons why it's your patriotic duty to see his film over the long holiday weekend...

The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia
just finished its super successful run at the Laemmle Sunset 5 and is now moving downtown to the beautiful Downtown Independent at the corner of Main and Second Street (right near the Edison, the Smell, Little Tokyo and St. Vibania) so that you can witness America in all its glory this July 4th weekend! And yes, boozehounds, the do serve wine and beer so you can watch it "plum tore out of the frame!"

It will only be playing there for one week, so act fast! I'm doing Q+A this Friday and Saturday nights.

And if you are wondering about whether our distributor Robert De Niro or our producer Johnny Knoxville are to be trusted, why don't you click your mousing finger on the links below?

For example, here's a pick of the week from the LA WEEKLY

Slant says, "One can't help but think Werner Herzog would be tickled pink by both the doc and the rebel director behind its lens."

Counterpunch calls it "riveting, hilarious, disturbing and profound."

Jewcy just likes it.

Andy Klein is freaked out but likes it.

And if that weren't enough, some real life white supremacists are pissed about me making the movie and are mocking the size of my nose.

And like they say in the TV ads for Ginzu knives, there's more!

Genius Chef David Sanfield loved the film so much that he not only is offering anyone who goes to the downtown branch of Pitfire Pizza (one half block from the theater) a 10% discount on food if you mention the film, but he also invented a special Jesco White Hillbilly Pie that will only available for one week! Ha ha!

Not only that, the owner of the Downtown Independent will let anyone in tap shoes in for free! And if you come with a group of 12 people, he will admit you for a group rate of $60.

Hope you make it this week!

Julien

CounterPunch

June 28, 2010

Sex therapist Susan Block in CounterPunch says the Wild Whites documentary is "riveting, hilarious, disturbing and profound."

She writes, "Not that “The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia” is a political message film—not at all. It is a tragi-comic, anthropological portrait of an all-American family run by a gang of rebel women who’ll be damned if they’re going to let a bunch of corporate mass-murderers and government thieves tell them what to do."

Interview - Jewcy.com

June 25, 2010

Jewcy.com interviews director Julien Nitzberg.

"At one point when we were shooting with Hank 3, Jesco decided to fashion a giant diaper out of a confederate flag Hank 3 had with Manson's face on it. Jesco then proceeded to talk baby talk for an hour, (though occasionally slipping into a monster voice). The diaper kept coming off and Hank 3 would have to re-diaper Baby Jesco while Jesco lay on the ground like a real baby. It was genius, weird and surreal but made no sense in the context of the movie so unfortunately ended up on the cutting room floor."

Interview - Slant Magazine

June 23, 2010

Great interview with Director Julien Nitzberg in Slant Magazine.

"Family members were jealous of who got the most time with the crew and would then refuse to be filmed. So it was a constant state of winning people back over. Stories were spread by different family members that we were doing crack with other family members, having sex with them, had bought one a Hummer, and even that Kirk White had put a hex on me to spend more time filming only her."
